Material calculator

Tile Calculator

Estimate tile coverage for an area, then calculate tiles or full boxes from the product details you enter.

Project measurements

How to use this calculator

Enter the surface length and width and choose a calculation method. Use tile dimensions and tiles per box when you need both tile and box counts. Use coverage per box when the package already states its coverage.

Enter an optional price per box to estimate cost from the rounded box count.

How the estimate is calculated

The dimensions method calculates the required rows and columns from the surface dimensions, tile dimensions, and grout gap, then adds waste and rounds up to full tiles. It divides by tiles per box and rounds up to full boxes. The coverage method adds waste once, divides by coverage per box, and returns full boxes without estimating individual tiles.

Example

For a 10 ft × 10 ft area using 12 in × 12 in tiles, a 1/8 in grout gap, and 10 tiles per box, the dimensions method estimates 10 rows of 10 tiles and 10 full boxes before additional waste.

Before you buy

Confirm tile dimensions, pieces per box, and box coverage on the product. Layouts with diagonal cuts, patterns, borders, or mixed tile sizes may require a different waste allowance.

Frequently asked questions

Why do the two methods show different details?

Box coverage does not reveal the size or number of individual tiles, so that method can calculate boxes but not a defensible tile count.

How does the grout gap affect the estimate?

It changes the spacing used to calculate rows and columns. The calculator does not plan edge cuts, borders, or layout direction, so waste remains a separate input.
