How to use this calculator

Enter the length, width, and finished gravel depth. Add the number of same-size areas if needed. To estimate weight, enter the density supplied for the chosen gravel.

How the estimate is calculated

Volume is length × width × depth. The calculator multiplies repeated areas and adds the waste percentage you choose. When density is provided, approximate weight is volume including waste × density.

Example

A 20 ft × 10 ft area at 3 in deep contains 50 cu ft, or about 1.85 cu yd. At 100 lb per cu ft, the estimated weight is 5,000 lb, or 2.5 short tons.

Before you buy

Compaction, particle size, moisture, and the supplier’s density can change the delivered weight. Use the supplier’s density instead of treating an example as a universal value.

Frequently asked questions

Is depth measured before or after compaction?

Enter the finished compacted depth you want. Your supplier or installer can advise how much loose material is needed to reach it.

Why is density optional?

Volume follows directly from dimensions, while weight depends on the type and condition of the gravel.
