How the estimate is calculated
The calculator multiplies length × width × depth, includes repeated beds, and adds the extra percentage you choose for waste. When bag size is provided, it divides the required volume by the bag volume and rounds up to full bags.
Example
A 12 ft × 8 ft bed at 3 in deep requires 24 cu ft of mulch, or about 0.89 cu yd. With 2 cu ft bags, that is 12 full bags before additional waste.
Before you buy
Measure the actual bed rather than its surrounding lawn. Bag volume varies by product, and settled depth can differ from freshly spread depth.

Can I use this for an irregular bed?
Split the bed into rectangles, calculate each one separately, and add the results.
Does the calculator estimate mulch weight?
No. Mulch moisture and material make weight too variable for a volume-only estimate.
